It is sometimes difficult to come up with new ideas for the Christmas season. This past Christmas we were able to do something that was successful enough that we are doing it again this year. We simply call in an “Old-Fashioned Christmas.” The platform is decorated and set-up to look like a living room at Christmastime. Included in this decoration is a rug, fireplace w/mantle, Christmas tree, presents, stockings, etc. Two nice wing chairs are set-up by the fireplace for my wife and me. Eight or ten of our church children are selected to sit on the rug around us.
For about thirty minutes, we tell the Christmas story. I use the children to read parts of the Christmas story in order as it happened. The Scriptures are mixed with personal explanation as well as special music numbers. This 30-40 minutes is a beautiful time that is a great was of giving people God’s message of salvation at Christmas. We do this on the Sunday morning before Christmas day which seems to be the best time. This is both an inexpensive and yet effective way of reaching people for Christ.
